Trail to Big Four Ice Caves Open Now
After a fatal accident last summer on July 7th, 2015, the Ice Caves have now officially reopened. There are new signs along the trail in hopes that people will stay clear of the danger zone up there.
Basically, read all of the signs and follow all of the rules.
The Mountain Loop between Deer Creek and Barlow pass also reopened today and that includes other hikes like Mount Dickerman, Perry Creek/Mount Forgotten, all of the Monte Cristo hikes, and Headlee Pass.
Monte Cristo was also closed for some time while hazardous materials were being cleaned out of the old mining town. All of these areas still have snow.
Please be advised spring conditions are still in effect. Many trails remain partially snow covered and avalanche danger still exists. Visit the Northwest Avalanche Center webpage for up to date information regarding avalanche and weather conditions.
