Mountain Loop Highway and Suiattle River Road Updates
Mountain Loop Highway-
Current Mountain Loop Highway conditions By: Walt Dortch
The Mt Loop Scenic Byway, is CLOSED at the Deer Creek Gate, approximately 12 miles east of the Verlot Public Service Center and at the Bedal Creek gate, approximately 16.5 miles south of Darrington. The closure is due to road damage, windfall trees and hazardous conditions. This blocks access to many popular trails including Elliot Creek/Goat Lake, Monte Cristo, Sunrise Mine, Mt Dickerman, Big Four and Coal Lake. It is unknown when these areas will be accessible.
The gravel section of the Mt. Loop Scenic Byway is not recommended for low clearance vehicles between the end of the pavement (10 miles south of Darrington) to the Bedal Creek gate due to debris slides (rock and wood) crossing the road.
Suiattle River Road-
The Suiattle River (Forest Service road 26) was blocked by windfall trees approximately 15 miles from SR 530 as of the afternoon of Nov. 18. This situation is dynamic and will change as more information comes in. The following trails are inaccessible as: Suiattle River Trail, Green Mountain Trail, Sulphur Creek Trail, Sulphur Mountain Trail along with Downey Creek Trail.

As of today, little or no information is available concerning secondary Forest Service roads on the Darrington Ranger District.
