Pyramid Lake Letdown
A very hot day on a hike with no shade... don't worry, because I brought your swimsuits girls! I should have done a little more research on this lake before heading up, but that is why I was there in the first place. Doing some research on the Pyramid Lake trail and taking my girls on a hike.
This trail offers very little shade because the first half of the hike is through a sparse forest; regrowth from an old fire. We were all very excited to find a creek half way up that was just right for splashing our faces!
Raichel, my oldest daughter, jumped the creek in this video. She shows that there is not much to worry about, knowing there is not a bridge.
The trail from the creek to the lake starts to climb again and then there is a section of nearly a half mile, that is extremely flat. This led me to believe that we were almost to the lake. A lot of these mountain lakes have very flat sections just before the lake, but that was not the case on Pyramid Lake.
The girls got very tired on the last bit of climbing, though they knew that I had packed their swimsuits and I would bring it up every time they insisted on stopping.
The lake was very small and I first notice a lot of bugs in it. I am ok with bugs in the water, but my girls did not want to go swimming in there. Luckily, there wasn't anyone else there when we were, because there just wasn't any room around it.
Very tired and hot on the way back down, Raichel announced that we would never be going to this lake ever again. I agreed and then she told me that she would never let her kids go there either. Though I felt like this was overkill, I told her that's right Raichel.
