We took advantage of some great Spring weather to try out a new trail near Baker Lake in search of some views of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan. The Baker River beautiful and the trail is lush with green colors and Spring growth.

The first half mile is a shared trail with the Baker Lake Trail that splits off at a large bridge across the Baker River. That first part was wide and rated for stock. It could be considered an ADA trail for sure, with no roots ad light gravel base.

A first for me, we saw a baby Possum laying in the trail playing dead. It scared my oldest daughter as she rounded a corner, but we just walked on by. Just passed this, she found a small tree frog hopping off the trail and we caught a cool video of it.

Every corner we turned gave us a different scenery, sometimes alders with grass afoot and other times old growth cedar forest with moss and ferns scattered about.

We finally came to a log converted to a bridge that crosses Lake Creek and the girls were very excited! Though this bridge had been washed out on the far side and therefore didn't connect over the creek. The creek was just big enough to not be safe for the girls to cross and I took some time to scout out another crossing.

I couldn't believe that there was a huge cedar tree just up stream the spanned all the way across Lake Creek, so I hauled the girls onto of it and we walked right across. The other side of the creek proved treacherous for them to climb through the brush, finally gaining the trail with some scrapes and a "sprained ankle" to Raichel. On the way back, I marked the trail to show other hikers where the easy crossing was (see video).

Next we found a beautiful little stream and Raichel just had to splash her face, which required a video of course!

We made it about two miles and turned around just after a waterfall on the cliffs above a pond. We heard more frogs and of course the girls wanted to go find them, but they were too tired from the adventures. We headed back and I carried Reggie on my shoulders to the car.
