This trail leaves from the Lone Fir Campground at a small parking area with toilets nearby. After leaving a descriptive trailhead sign, the trail immediately crosses a few short bridges over a beautiful creek. It continues paved with various interpretive signs until reaching a bridge made from a large log that crosses Early Winter's Creek. The trees are aromatic and the highway is close, but seldom heard from due to the roaring small creeks.
The sign at the trailhead describes this short hike as the original path used by Native Americans traveling from Methow Valley to the mountains beyond. Later it was used by trappers, prospectors and highway surveyors.
There is an unmaintained loop that continues on, but has some bridges out.
