My wife came out with us to Whistle Lake in Anacortes and the girls showed her how to hike. We started at the North end trailhead just South of the city itself in the hills. The somewhat small parking lot only had a few cars and we took the trail to the right instead of the access road to the left.

I took a photo of the map at the trailhead, because I didn't bring one with us. Wish that had, because there are a ton of intersecting trails to explore up there. The trail to the left at the parking lot was well groomed and went on, rambling through a completely green forest for about a half of a mile.

Once we hit a road, we decided to turn left and try to find another actual trail. There is a toilet at an intersection and we headed up to explore the trail that leaves East from this point. Another great, well maintained trail that brought us to many other trail junctions.

My wife and I let our kids decide where to turn, knowing ourselves where the lake was the whole time. Our oldest daughter found a great spot on the East side of the lake that had plenty of spots to eat our lunch. The lake was surprisingly pristine considering how close it is to society.

Mount Erie was staring down at us and calling me to climb. There are trails that lead between Whistle Lake and Mount Erie, but we decided to do that a different day! I can't wait to get back out there.

I usually like to save these types of hikes for late Fall through very early Spring, but my wife said she wanted to come out and that was awesome!
