Deception Pass First Day of the Year Hike!

Deception Pass First Day of the Year Hike!

We are excited about kicking the year off with a hike on the first day and it is on part of the Pacific Northwest Trail(PNT)! The hike will begin at 10:00 AM and finish around noon on January 1, 2017, meeting at the Cornet Bay Retreat Center on the South end of Deception Pass.

Join us - YES I will be there too - on this hike from Cornet Bay, around Goose Rock and over it then down the other side back to Cornet Bay. The highest point, Goose Rock, is only 484 feet tall, but it is one of the tallest points on Whidbey Island. Note: the tallest point is 530 feet.

The best part of this hike is the presentation afterward on the PNT. Jeff Kish is the Executive Director of the PNT and he will be giving the presentation. He hiked the trail end to end and immediately became an advocate for this National Scenic Trail. His passion in presentation for the PNT is renowned in the hiking community.

The PNT is a designated National Scenic Trail that travels from Glacier National Park continuously to the Pacific Ocean. To see where it travels through our area see our article HERE

Park staff will be guiding this hike and there will be warm drinks and snacks during the presentation afterward. Dress warm and bring your rain gear, the hike will go on under all conditions so be prepared. We recommend that you bring your own snacks and water along on the trail.

January 1st is one of Washington State Parks "Free Days" so don't worry about a pass to enter the park or for parking anywhere it is normally required.

So come out and kick off the New Year's Day with the PNT, Deception Pass and us! Sign up on Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/events/169579290183344/
